What is Car Detailing?

Car Detailing is the term which groups together a wide variety of specialist processes which aim to restore all aspects of a vehicles appearance to the best possible condition. In some cases, for example paintwork, better than new condition. Detailing does not involve replacing or re-painting components of a vehicle, or indeed removing dents; this work will remain the domain of the Bodyshop.

Instead we use specialist tools, products and techniques to re-condition all types of substrate. Outlined below are the major aspects of Car Detailing services.

What are the Processes?

Paint Correction

It is true that the majority of time on any given vehicle is spent on the paintwork, understandably so, as this makes up by far the highest percentage of any vehicle's visible surface. "Paint Correction" involves the use of various grades of abrasives, compounds and polishes to progressively refine the finish of paintwork. This is done by way of removing imperfections, commonly scratches, which are inflicted by a variety of means. Scratches from automated car washes, poor home-washing technique, bush scratches from country lanes, and general degradation and oxidisation from all manner of environmental factors, all rob you vehicle's finish of it's shine, by preventing it from reflecting light. Instead light is "scattered" by the myriad of microscopic and visible imperfections, leaving a hazed appearance. Once your paint has been restored it will be sealed with the most durable and protective range of products available in the world.

Cleaning and Restoration of Convertible Tops:

The fabric tops of convertibles are often overlooked and neglected. This is crazy when you consider they are far more susceptible to environmental degradation and attack than painted components. Also the cost of replacing these parts is generally astronomical. Convertible tops are damaged by tree sap, Ultra-Violet radiation and industrial fallout. We can restore damaged, faded and generally unsightly convertible tops using a proven three-stage process which consists of, cleaning, re-colouring (where necessary) and finally re-waterproofing. These three processes can be done for a tiny fraction of replacing the roof and you will be astonished at the results. We can also significantly improve the clarity of hazed flexible or hard plastic rear windows in convertible tops. This improves visibility and safety. We then will protect them against Ultra-Violet radiation, which play a big part in their initial degradation.

Interiors

Vehicle interiors are also important; they're where you sit! Pro-Detailing can recondition all aspects of a vehicle's interior. Carpets and fabric upholstery, including alcantara, can be cleaned with very effective, yet safe products with a wet-extraction machine, and then coated with a protectant which makes them far more resistant to future staining. Leather seats and other upholstery can be cleaned and 'fed' restoring suppleness and softness and helping to prevent cracking. You can even chose to from a range of fragrances for the leather! Scuffed and cracked leather can be re-coated with permanent dyes (by special arrangement). Interior glass can be coated with very effective anti-fog coating, making winter driving less frustrating and safer, all interior plastics can be cleaned and protected against fading with an anti-static coating, helping them to repel dust.

Engine Bays

Over time engine bays naturally become oily. Once this occurs, even if a car is only driven in the dry, dust and grime adheres to all surfaces. This isn't necessarily detrimental to any engine components but looks unsightly. Pro-Detailing can use specialist cleaners and degreasers to remove grime and oil deposits, and then dress engine parts, particularly plastics, with protectants which will prevent future cracking and degradation. We also refill all washer fluid reservoirs if requested. If you're thinking of selling your car, a well presented engine bay speaks volumes; if you can keep the engine bay looking its best; it sends a positive message to any potential buyer.

How Long Do The Treatments Last?

Understandably this is largely dependent on the usage pattern of the vehicle after the treatment. Clearly, a daily driver will be exposed to more rain and degrading environments than a 'Garage Queen' would be, and this has an effect on the durability of any protective system applied. We source what are without doubt the finest and more durable protective coatings available in the world today, from the UK, Germany, Switzerland and the US. They will outlast those available in motoring superstores several times over. On all exterior protective programmes we aim to apply 3 layers of the appropriate Zaino sealant, we are confident that this would last for at least 6-9 months, provided the recommended products and processes are adhered to for subsequent washing. Durability of one year is possible with the use of appropriate 'maintenance' products to top-up the protection.
